The 2026 SAFRIPOL Community Bursaries programme will empower more students from selected communities in KwaZulu-Natal. With this bursary, students will gain funding for their education while SAFRIPOL Community will continue to support skills development, youth upliftment, and the engineering potential of South Africa.
For the 2026 academic year, the SAFRIPOL Community invites students to apply for bursaries. Students who wish to study Engineering at ANY South African accredited tertiary institution are encouraged to apply. The closing date is 31 January 2026. Students who wish to apply should do so early to avoid this cut off.
Objectives of the SAFRIPOL Community Bursary
The SAFRIPOL Community Bursary aims at supporting financially needy but academically deserving students who possess the potential to excel in the engineering field. The overwhelming objective of the bursary is to develop the technical skills that are in short supply in the country’s manufacturing, energy, and industrial systems.
The students from particular communities also stand to gain more from this programme. The primary beneficiaries of this particular programme are the students from Wentworth, Jacobs, and Bluff in KwaZulu-Natal. With students from these communities, SAFRIPOL intends to develop and sustain educational and professional prospects in the respective local communities.
Covered Engineering Disciplines
The bursary will be granted only for the following Engineering disciplines:
Chemical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Instrumentation Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
These particular engineering disciplines were chosen for their high relevance to most industrial processes and potential employment opportunities. STudents interested in the areas of problem-solving, and are innovative and technically skilled will find these disciplines equally demanding and fulfilling.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
To qualify for the SAFRIPOL Community Bursary, all of the following criteria must be met:
You are a South African citizen
You live in Wentworth, Jacobs, or Bluff KwaZulu-Natal
You have completed or are currently an enrolled Matric student
You have the intention to study, or you are already studying, one of the Engineering disciplines listed above
You are either enrolled or have provisional admission status at a South African accredited tertiary institution
If an applicant does not meet all the criteria listed above, they will be disqualified from the selection process, which is stringent and highly competitive.
Selection and Evaluation Process
Factors from which eligible candidates will be evaluated include:
Admission Point Score (APS)
Current academic results
Selected area of study
Shortlisting will occur for candidates who possess the most substantial academic proficiency and alignment with the aims of the bursary programme. This funding is confirmed only after proof of official acceptance is given into a positive-accredited higher education institution for the academic year of 2026.
Bursary allocations are made exclusively at the discretion of the SAFRIPOL Bursary Committee, and their decision is conclusive.

Applicants need to provide certified copies (not older than 3 months) of the following documents:
South African ID document
Grade 11 report and latest Matric results (if currently in Matric)
Matric Certificate (if Matric is completed)
Academic transcript (if already studying)
Updated fee statement (if applicable)
Proof of enrolment or provisional acceptance
Income proof of the parents or guardians (payslips, affidavit, SASSA or pension proof)
High school testimonial (for Matric learners)
Motivation letter (for students already studying)
Proof of residence
An affidavit confirming dependency on a parent or guardian
