Objective of the Position
The main goal of the position is to keep Dis-Chem’s assets, properties, and employees safe by fostering a safe retail environment. Security Guards must always stay aware of their surroundings and document the presence of any illegal activity or disturbance in order to prevent more serious problems. This includes looking into the cause of the disturbance, and responding to emergencies and document the cause as best as he can to avoid legal implications.
Security Guards are Visible in retail environments, and participate in the prevention of illegal activity such as theft and vandalism. They are the first line of defense and rest assure employees and customers their safety as a priority.
Primary Duties
The following will be the primary responsibilities of the security guards of Dis- Chem Pharmacies in Pretoria
– Watching and ensuring limited access to the area to employees, suppliers, and customers.
– Making several walks to determine any irregular activities or behaviors.
– With the use of observation and the appropriate technique, stock and assets loss will be avoided.
– Work towards the elimination of disorder and disturbances in a courteous and abnormal manner.
– Ensure to adhere to all policies and rules of the organization and the security policies in the State of Minnesota.
– It is the duty of the Security Guard to provide and maintain all documentation and report regarding any incidents.
Supporting management in executing emergency plans and evacuation procedures as required.
Compliance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act is required as is ethical behavior, discretion and confidentiality. Good communication skills are also essential as speaking with personnel and customers is a regular part of the job.
Minimum Requirements
To apply for this permanent position, the below criteria must be met:
Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent Senior Certificate.
Grade C certificate with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
A minimum of three (3) years general experience in a retail environment i.e. shopping malls, retail shops or warehousing.
Though this position is considered entry level, experience in retail security is beneficial. An understanding of the retail business and security problems in an FMCG environment is also required.
