Student Academic Support Program Coordinator at the University of Zululand
The Student Academic Support Program Coordinator will manage and coordinate a number of academic programs aimed at enhancing the learning experience of students at the University of Zululand. Key Responsibilities
Coordination of the Tutorship Program: The coordinator will have the duty of keeping the tutorship program running effectively, providing academic assistance to students who need it. This involves liaison with tutors, students, and lecturers to guarantee an effective program that addresses student needs.
Coordination of the Mentorship Program: This is a position that entails the running of a mentorship program where senior students guide and assist other students. Through mentorship, the university aims to help students cope better with academic life.
Research, Evaluation, and Reporting: The coordinator will be responsible for assessing the outcomes of the various programs. This involves conducting research, collecting data, and preparing reports to ascertain progress and areas for improvement.
Policy Development and Review: The individual will be tasked with developing and reviewing policies related to academic support and literacy, ensuring such documents are up-to-date and aligned with the mission of the university.

Minimum Requirements
The University of Zululand has outlined some qualifications and experience for this post:
A Master’s degree in Education or a related qualification is required.
Minimum 5 years’ experience working with tutorial programs in a tertiary setting.
Minimum 3 years’ work experience in a University Teaching and Learning or Reading and Writing Centre, including at least one year in the following roles:
Academic Development Advisor/Practitioner
Staff Development Officer
Writing Centre Coordinator/Practitioner/Facilitator
Desired Qualifications
Although a Doctoral degree is not required, it is an additional benefit. Individuals with a Doctorate will definitely be highly competitive for the position.
Key Areas of Skills and Knowledge
The ideal candidate will possess a general set of skills and areas of knowledge that are fundamental to success in this role:
Knowledge: Familiarity with structures and legislation of higher education, e.g., guidelines of the Council on Higher Education (CHE). Familiarity with academic support programs, learning theory, pedagogies, and academic literacy development. Proficiency in learning management systems and MS Office Suite.
Skills: The job demands superb communication, time management, and interpersonal skills. Superior planning, organizing, reporting, and conflict management skills are also needed. Research, networking, and presentation skills are additional skills needed.
Attributes: The candidates need to have attention to detail, assertiveness, independence, and accuracy. The ability to work under deadlines and as a self-starter is also necessary.
